On July 19, NIDA joined the Fogarty International Center D43 program for institutional research training programs in low-and middle-income countries (LMIC). Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) PAR-18-091, Chronic, Non-Communicable Diseases and Disorders Across the Lifespan: Fogarty International Research Training Award, is also known as NCD-LIFESPAN. Clinical trials are optional. Applications may be for collaborations between institutions in the United States and an eligible LMIC or may involve just LMIC institutions that meet certain requirements. Applications should propose to train in-country experts to develop and conduct research, with the long-range goal of implementing evidence-based interventions relevant to the LMIC country. NIDA international research priorities include opioid overdose and addiction, marijuana, drug-related HIV infection, amphetamine-type stimulants, inhalant abuse, smoking during pregnancy, and drugged driving.
