NIDA has awarded an INVEST Drug Abuse Research Fellowship to Larissa J. Maier, Ph.D., Switzerland. Dr. Maier will work with Dorie Apollonio, Ph.D., University of California San Francisco, to investigate the impact of local strategies to prevent opioid-related overdose deaths by extending the scope of a NIDA study that links cannabis and opioid policies to health outcomes (R21DA046051). Dr. Maier plans to use the fellowship to improve her policy research skills when analyzing multiple data sources simultaneously and to prepare for future international collaboration between U.S. and Swiss or other European academic or governmental institutions to prevent harm related to illicit substance use.
