NIDA plans to provide $750 travel awards to 27 junior investigators to present their research on women or sex/gender differences in any area of drug abuse at the annual meeting of the College on Problems of Drug Dependence (CPDD) in San Juan, Puerto Rico, June 14‒19, 2014.
NIDA encourages research on sex/gender differences because accumulating research, both human and animal, shows that the antecedents, consequences, and mechanisms of drug abuse and dependence often differ between males and females. Such differences may affect responses to treatment and prevention.
Travel award recipients must be the first author on an abstract accepted for presentation at the CPDD meeting. Eligible applicants include graduate and medical students, post-doctoral students, medical residents, or researchers who are no more than 5 years past earning their doctoral degrees or finishing their residencies. NIDA encourages male and minority investigators to apply.
Applications are due by Monday, December 10, 2013.
